Thanks to the rise of AI tools, people can now generate hyper-realistic pictures simply by typing a prompt. From viral Instagram posts to political posters and even fake news visuals, AI-generated images have literally flooded the internet. And honestly, many of them are now so convincing that spotting them with the naked eye has become surprisingly difficult. That growing concern around AI-generated media was one of the major talking points at Google I/O 2026. During the event, Google announced deeper collaboration around the C2PA verification standard alongside companies including OpenAI, Nvidia, ElevenLabs and Kakao The idea is fairly simple: make it easier for people to identify whether a piece of media was created or manipulated using AI. Shortly after the announcement, OpenAI rolled out a dedicated verification tool that helps users check whether an image was generated using its AI systems.

How To Check If An Image Was Made Using ChatGPT

The process is fairly simple and only takes a few seconds.

-Open a web browser on your computer.

-Search for “Verify OpenAI-generated images” and open the official verification page.

-Upload the image you want to check.

-The system will scan for SynthID markers and content credentials.

-Once complete, the tool will tell you whether the image was created or edited using OpenAI tools.

With AI-generated content becoming harder to identify every month, tools like this may soon become as common as reverse image search.
